Human trafficking, a silent epidemic, is becoming an emerging public health care priority in the United States. It is
estimated that worldwide, 21 million labor and sex trafficked people live in
conditions of modern day slavery. More than half are women and children. It is
also estimated that up to 50% of victims will seek healthcare while in
captivity. In many academic hospital programs training to identify and treat physical and sexual abuse is mandatory, but not in trafficking. The objectives of this conference are to educate healthcare professionals, provide access to resources and treatment, and contribute to global efforts at prevention of human trafficking.
